Cogni (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is a thinking companion for the AI age. We built Cogni to protect your independent thinking — and we take the same care with your privacy. This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what we collect, what we do not collect, and the choices you have.
This Privacy Policy applies to the Cogni browser extension and our website at thinkwithcogni.com and its subdomains (together, our “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here and in our Terms of Service.
To keep things clear, these terms mean the following whenever they appear:
We only collect information that is necessary to provide Cogni. Specifically:
When you create an account, you provide:
To make the extension work and to show you your own progress, we record lightweight, anonymous usage events:
When you sign up, your IP address is briefly sent to Cloudflare to confirm you are a real person and not an automated bot (using Cloudflare Turnstile). This is a security check. We do not store your IP address ourselves, and it is not used to track you.
We use the information we collect only to:
By creating an account you agree to receive essential emails needed to operate your account, such as email verification. If you opt in to marketing updates, you may also receive occasional product news; you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any such email. We do not send unsolicited commercial email.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We share information only in these limited circumstances:
We rely on a small number of trusted providers to operate the Service. They process data only on our instructions and only to perform their function:
| Provider | Purpose | What they handle |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database & authentication | Account details and usage events; secure password storage. |
| Resend | Email delivery | Your email address, to send verification and account emails. |
| Cloudflare | Bot protection (Turnstile) | Your IP address, transiently, to verify you are human at sign-up. |
We may disclose information if we reasonably believe it is necessary to comply with a law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request; to enforce our terms; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Cogni, our users, or the public.
If Cogni is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will require any successor to honour the commitments in this Privacy Policy, and we will notify you of any such change and your choices.
We keep your information only for as long as we need it to provide Cogni and to meet our legal obligations.
If you delete your account, we remove your personal data from our active systems straight away. Residual copies held in encrypted backups are purged on our normal backup rotation, and in any case within 90 days of your request. After that, we either delete your information or keep it only in anonymised form that can no longer identify you.
We use a range of technical and organisational measures to keep your information safe. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS), passwords are stored in encrypted form by our authentication provider, and access to account data is restricted. Access to your stored data is protected by database access rules so that you can only ever reach your own information.
No method of transmission or storage is ever completely secure. While we use reasonable measures to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
You can, at any time:
To exercise any of these, contact us at the address below. To protect your privacy, we may take reasonable steps to verify your identity before acting on a request. Please note that some residual copies may persist briefly in backups before the rotation completes, as described above.
Cogni is based in Ireland. Your information may be processed by us or our service providers in countries other than your own. Where data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, we rely on appropriate safeguards as required by applicable law. By using the Service, you consent to this processing as described in this policy.
The Cogni extension does not use cookies. To keep you signed in and remember your settings, it stores small amounts of data locally on your device using your browser’s storage. This data stays on your device.
Our website may use cookies and similar technologies for essential functionality and to understand, in aggregate, how the site is used so we can improve it. You can set your browser to block cookies, though some site features may then not work as intended. We never place personally identifiable information in cookies.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) gives you specific rights over your personal data. As an Ireland-based company, we apply these protections as our baseline standard.
You have the right to access your personal data; to request a copy of it; and to have it corrected, deleted, restricted, or transferred to another organisation. We process personal data fairly, lawfully, and transparently; collect it only for the specific purposes described here; and keep it no longer than necessary. To exercise any GDPR right, contact us using the details below. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
If you are a California resident, you may request information about the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collect, the purposes for which we use it, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it (all described above). You may also request deletion of your personal information, and you will not be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights.
We do not sell the personal information of our users. If you would like to exercise any of these rights, please contact us; we will respond within the timeframe required by law.
Cogni is intended for adults. The Service is not directed to anyone under the age of 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will take steps to remove it. If we learn that we have collected personal data from someone under 18, we will delete it.
The Service may contain links to websites we do not operate. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those sites. Once you follow a link away from the Service, this Privacy Policy no longer applies, and we encourage you to review the privacy policy of any site you visit.
As Cogni grows, we may update this policy to reflect changes to the Service or to our practices — for example, if we add a paid plan or new features. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you through the Service before the changes take effect. If you continue using Cogni after an update, you accept the revised policy.
By using Cogni and registering an account, you consent to this Privacy Policy and agree to its terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of Ireland, excluding its conflict-of-laws rules. Your use of the Service may also be subject to other local, national, or international laws.
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or your data, we’re happy to help.
